Slap bang in the middle of Paris, the Centre Pompidou, also known as the Centre Georges Pompidou, is best described as a building turned inside-out. Utilitarian features like plumbing, air vents, and cables form part of the external façade and it’s all rendered in see-through glass. That sets the stage for the groundbreaking art inside. Start on the top floor and take in the various isms: Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Dadaism, and Surrealism, all laid out chronologically over the course of the 20th century. Along the way, you’ll see works by Picasso, Man Ray, Chagall and many, many more.

From 1960 onwards, the works shift from modern to contemporary. Andy Warhol is the most recognizable name, but art by luminaries like Richard Hamilton, Dan Flavin and Louise Bourgeois will also make an impression. The center also includes a vast public library, a research center for acoustics and music, and some of the best views of the city. Take in what you like, but don’t miss a chance to visit the top floor and take in the Eiffel Tower and rooftops of the world’s most romantic city.

With works by Matisse, Cubist founders Picasso and Georges Braque, and home to important pieces that gave rise to art movements like Fauvism, Cubism, and Surrealism, the Centre Pompidou is a must-see in Paris. Feast your eyes on works by Warhol, the masterful paint splatters of Pollock, and even step into the reconstructed studio of Surrealist poet, André Breton.

It was excellent! Very modern and innovative arts. Very talented artists. It was a fantastic experience and enjoyed a lot the ambience and beauty of the building structure. Thanks a lot.

Such a cool museum with a comprehensive permanent collection, and awesome seasonal exhibits. The building is so much fun, and once I got through the crazy crowds getting in, it was a delightful and fun to explore and view the collection.
Elissa Jane

Amazing architecture and brilliant exhibition – wonderfully curated. It was disappointing not to be able to access the viewing deck outside.
Andy

Good. It was very confusing at the beginning because it was my first time there and it was super crowded. The Centre is huge so that’s why it was overwhelming at the beginning.
